Introduction

The SayPro NPO Web Design Competition challenges participants to design and develop a fully functional, responsive, and visually appealing website that effectively represents the mission and vision of a Non-Profit Organization (NPO).

Each participant or team will be paired with an NPO in need of a website redesign or new development, ensuring that the competition has a real-world impact by supporting social causes while fostering innovation and digital transformation.


Competition Goals

  • Empower NPOs with high-quality, professional websites.
  • Encourage innovation in web design and user experience.
  • Promote digital accessibility for diverse audiences.
  • Enhance collaboration between designers, developers, and social impact organizations.

Who Can Participate?

  • Web designers, developers, and digital creatives (individuals or teams of up to four members).
  • University students, professionals, and freelancers with skills in web development, UI/UX design, and content creation.

Competition Requirements

Participants must create a fully functional website that meets the following criteria:
Responsive Design: The website must be mobile-friendly and work seamlessly across different devices.
Visually Appealing: Aesthetically pleasing layout and branding aligned with the NPO’s identity.
User-Friendly Navigation: Intuitive structure ensuring ease of use for visitors.
Core Functionalities: May include donation platforms, event calendars, volunteer sign-ups, blogs, and social media integration.
Accessibility Standards: Compliance with WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) for inclusive user experience.
SEO & Performance Optimization: Fast-loading pages, proper metadata, and search engine visibility.


Competition Format & Phases

1. Registration & NPO Matching (January 1 – January 15)

  • Participants register individually or in teams.
  • SayPro matches each participant/team with an NPO based on project needs.
  • Introductory sessions with the NPO to understand objectives, audience, and brand identity.

2. Research & Website Planning (January 16 – January 31)

  • Conduct research on the NPO’s mission, values, and digital needs.
  • Create wireframes and prototypes for the website.
  • Submit an initial design concept for feedback.

3. Website Development & Testing (February 1 – February 28)

  • Develop the website using modern web development technologies (e.g., WordPress, HTML/CSS, JavaScript, or other CMS platforms).
  • Ensure fully functional interactive elements (e.g., contact forms, donation pages).
  • Implement SEO best practices and accessibility standards.
  • Midway progress check with SayPro mentors and NPO representatives.

4. Submission & Evaluation (March 1 – March 10)

  • Submit the fully functional website, including a documentation report explaining design choices.
  • Conduct live demonstrations of the website for judges.
  • Websites will be evaluated based on design, functionality, usability, accessibility, and innovation.

5. Awards & Recognition (March 15)

  • Winners and outstanding projects will be announced.
  • Certificates, prizes, and opportunities for further collaboration with NPOs.
  • Top websites will be showcased on SayPro’s platform and social media.
