1. Objectives

The purpose of SayPro’s quarterly photography contests is to:

  • Encourage creative expression through photography.
  • Provide a platform for emerging and professional photographers.
  • Engage the SayPro community in visual storytelling.
  • Celebrate diversity, culture, and innovation through imagery.

2. Contest Structure

Each year will feature four contests, one per quarter:

  • Q1 Contest (Jan–Mar)
  • Q2 Contest (Apr–Jun)
  • Q3 Contest (Jul–Sep)
  • Q4 Contest (Oct–Dec)

Each quarter will have a distinct theme, judged entries, public voting, and prizes.


3. Theme Selection Process

Timeline: Finalized one month before each quarter begins.

Process:

  • Internal brainstorming by SayPro content and marketing teams.
  • Community input through polls or suggestion boxes.
  • Selection of relevant, inclusive, and thought-provoking themes.

Criteria for Theme Selection:

  • Relevance to SayPro’s mission (empowerment, education, community).

4. Submission Guidelines

Eligibility:

  • Open to all SayPro users globally (professionals and amateurs).
  • Participants must be 18+ or have guardian consent.

Submission Period:

  • Open on the 1st of the first month of the quarter.
  • Closes on the 25th of the final month of the quarter.

Submission Requirements:

  • Each participant may submit 1–3 original photographs per contest.
  • Submissions must relate to the announced theme.
  • High-resolution JPG or PNG formats (minimum 2000px on the longest side).
  • File size should not exceed 10MB per image.
  • Minor post-processing allowed (brightness, contrast, color correction), but no AI-generated images or heavy digital manipulation.
  • Each image must be accompanied by a title and a 100–200 word description/story.

Submission Method:

  • Through SayPro’s official contest portal or app.
  • Must agree to terms and conditions, including rights for display and promotional use.

5. Judging Criteria

Photos will be evaluated in two stages: Jury Review and Community Voting.

A. Jury Review (70%)

Panel Composition:

  • 3–5 professional photographers or visual artists.
  • 1 SayPro representative.
  • 1 guest judge (community influencer or past winner).

Criteria:

  • Relevance to Theme (20%): How clearly the photo expresses the contest’s theme.
  • Originality and Creativity (20%): Unique perspective or concept.
  • Technical Quality (15%): Composition, lighting, focus, and exposure.
  • Emotional Impact (15%): The ability to provoke thought or feeling.

B. Community Voting (30%)

  • Top 20 shortlisted entries will be published for public voting on the SayPro website/app.
  • One vote per user/IP address.
  • Voting is open for 7 days after the shortlist announcement.

6. Prizes and Recognition

Top 3 Winners:

  • 1st Place: $500 USD + Certificate + Featured profile on SayPro website.
  • 2nd Place: $250 USD + Certificate.
  • 3rd Place: $100 USD + Certificate.

Honorable Mentions:

  • Selected entries will receive digital certificates and be featured in SayPro’s online gallery.

Annual Grand Winner:

  • Selected from the four quarterly 1st-place winners.
  • Receives an additional prize (e.g., $1000, DSLR camera, or sponsored exhibition).

7. Promotion and Engagement

  • Announce contest and theme across social media, newsletters, and SayPro community forums.
  • Share tips from judges or past winners to help guide participants.

8. Terms and Conditions

  • Entrants retain copyright but grant SayPro a non-exclusive license for promotional use.
  • Entries must be original works; plagiarized or AI-generated images will be disqualified.
  • SayPro reserves the right to modify contest rules as necessary.
