Objective:
To encourage learners to reflect on their experiences with Indigenous games and cultural activities, and to explore their understanding of the importance of preserving and celebrating these traditions.

Instructions for the Learners:

  1. Write a Reflective Essay (800-1000 words):
The learners should write a reflective essay about their experience participating in the Indigenous games and cultural activities after school. The essay should cover:
    • What Indigenous games or cultural practices they learned about.
    • How these games or activities were different from or similar to the games they play in their everyday life.
    • What they learned about the cultural significance of these activities.
    • How they think these traditions can be preserved for future generations.
    • Any personal reflections or thoughts they have about the experience.
  2. Incorporate the following themes:
    • The role of games in Indigenous cultures (social, educational, and spiritual).
    • The importance of cultural heritage.
    • Reflections on teamwork, communication, and other life skills learned through these games.
  3. Visual Elements (optional):
They may also include drawings or diagrams of the games they played or cultural symbols that resonated with them.

After-School Plan:

Date of Camp:
Set the date for a 3-day camp during the upcoming school holidays to further immerse the learners in these cultural experiences. A 3-day camp is typically enough to engage the learners, while also allowing time for reflection, group activities, and discussions.

  • Dates: Set a date during the school holidays, perhaps around mid or late December, or another appropriate time depending on your school’s calendar.
  • Camp Activities:
    • Day 1: Introduction to Indigenous Games and Culture – Historical context and how they are practiced today.
    • Day 2: Games and Activities – Learning and practicing traditional Indigenous games.
    • Day 3: Cultural Workshops – Workshops on arts, crafts, storytelling, and food, with the learners reflecting on the entire experience.
